During the Daniel Fast, we are crucifying the flesh, forbidding what our body craves naturally. This will prevent our flesh from dominating our spirit. Instead, our spirit dominates our flesh.

Daniel 1:11-15 – Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, “Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.” So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days. At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.

Daniel 10:2-3: At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over.

It was recorded in the Bible that Daniel fasted for 21 days, and this is where the term Daniel Fast came about. During this time, Daniel ate no “pleasant bread.”

The Daniel fast involves a spiritual commitment to God. “Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself.” (Dan. 1:8)

Remember, FAITH and PRAYER are CRITICAL elements of the Daniel Fast.

Daniel Fast Guidelines for 10 Days of Awe:

Our Fast officially begins at 6am on Wednesday, September 24th and will continue for 10 days through 6pm on Saturday, October 4th. During this fast we will be expanding our time to cover the full 24 hours. We will be on the Daniel Fast from 6am – 6pm. After 6pm, we will be LIMITED to REDUCED electronic use from 6pm – 6am (such as cell phone, internet, social media: Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

The Daniel fast is a partial fast. It does not mean that you cannot eat or drink anything. We are asking that you refrain from meats, sweets and grease during the fast. We are asking that you use moderation in your eating and take authority over your flesh by denying it of the things that it craves.

During the hours outside of the 6am-6pm Daniel Fast, when we eat/drink, we will use wisdom and consume food/drinks in moderation (continuing to refrain from meats, sweets and grease as much as possible). The goal is to keep your stomach light while feeding your spirit with the Word of God, Prayer & Intercession, Praise & Worship Music, Biblical Teachings, Confessions & Decrees, etc. This will cause your flesh to become subject to the Spirit, promoting growth, maturity and sensitivity concerning the things of God.

Eat some fruits, vegetables, salad, 100% fruit juices, plenty of water, crackers, baked or broiled fish or chicken. Refrain from the fast food restaurants.

*Note: Those taking medications please continue to follow the advice of your doctor. If you must eat or drink with medications, please continue to do so. We are not asking you to stop taking your medications.

If you must eat for health reasons, consider refraining from television or other activities that normally take you away from the presence of the Lord. Maybe there is something you like to do, but it steals the time and energy you have to seek God. Consider giving up those things. These alternatives will still thrust you into a deeper relationship with the Lord.
